Roy Stewart, 86, Greencastle, died Friday, April 3, 2009 at the Asbury Towers Healthcare Center.

Born Jan. 5, 1923 in Cory, he was the son of Harley W. and Edith Modesitt Stewart.

He was a graduate of Cory High School. He married Marcella "Sally" Patterson on May 13, 1944 and she survives.

Mr. Stewart was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Air Force from 1943 to 1946.

An electrician by trade and a member of IBEW Local 481, he was employed by Bob Etter Electric in Greencastle and the Sanborn Electric Company in Terre Haute and Indianapolis before retiring in 1985.

A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of Temple Lodge 47 in Greencastle, twice holding the honor of Worshipful Master; and also 32nd degree member of the Scottish rite.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Richard Stewart, Coatesville, Judy Osting, Palm Bay, Fla., Betty McGill and husband, Paul, Marsha Romalia and husband, John, all of Greencastle, and Carol Richardson and husband, Jerry of Palm Bay; a brother, Donald Stewart of Clinton; two sisters, Norma Jane Miller, Bowling Green, and Wilma Jean Slater, Brazil; ten grandchildren, Rick Stewart, Marcie Grimes, Randy Stewart, Jeremy Osting, Scott McGill, Courtney McGill, Jennifer Romalia, Matthew Romalia, Vanessa Blake and Lauren Richardson; ten great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Eldon and Dale Stewart, and two sisters, Joy Murphy and Estell Mae Whitlock.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with a Masonic memorial service to be held at 7 p.m.
