Cletus O. Sult, 96, Greencastle, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born April 13, 1913 in Loogootee, he was the son of William and Mary Jane (Hart) Sult.

He attended Loogootee High School and married Daisy L. Deck Sult on Oct. 19, 1940 and she preceded him in death on July 27, 2005.

Mr. Sult entered the United States Army Aircorp, and after receiving his officers training retired from the United States Air Force in 1952 as a Captain with 21 years of service. He co-owned and operated the Eventide Nursing Home from 1960 to 1972.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church; a life member of Gideon's International; a charter member of the Chanute Heritage Foundation; 7th Bomb Wing B36 Assn.; Rantoul Lodge #470 Masonic Lodge, Ill.; past president of the Cloverdale Town Board; and the American Red Cross, helping to build the building at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

Survivors include his daughter, Mary Jane Toney and husband, Jim of Greencastle; two grandchildren, Tim Gierke and wife, Michelle of Greencastle and Becky Douglas and husband, Alan of Greencastle; five great-grandchildren Brett, Brandon and Bradi Gierke, Katie and Josie Douglas; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Britney and Ashley Douglas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph Sult, William Sult, and his twin Arthur Sult; two sisters, Ida Vickrey and Nelly Kelly.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Bowen officiating. Burial will be in the Brick Chapel Cemetery with military honors.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
