Cloverdale boys finish second at Northview

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

The Cloverdale boys golf team placed second against Northview and Shakamak Tuesday evening. The host Knights won the event with a 139, Cloverdale was second with a 169 and Shakamak finished with an incomplete score.

"The conditions were very difficult," CHS head coach Doug Wokoun said. "There was an abundance of casual water and gusty wind. We were fortunate to even get the round in."

"Northview had a round that was astounding under the conditions. Coach Buell had his group ready to go and they got a great effort from their whole group," Wokoun said.

Chris Arnold led Cloverdale with a 36, followed by Mike Wellington with a 40 and Gary Williams with a 45. Sam Jordan and Keith Hathorn both carded 48 and Ryan Book finished with a 55.

"Chris played very well, and Mike had a good round," Wokoun commented. "Gary Williams is continuing to improve. Our younger players are making progress and made some good shots. Each round is getting better. We are looking forward to playing in warmer, drier weather.

"Battling the conditions is only giving us more confidence that we can be successful," he concluded.

The Clovers will host North Putnam Monday at 4:30 p.m.
