A two-car crash occurred just before 9 a.m. at the intersection of Walnut and Jackson streets in Greencastle. According to an accident report prepared by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department, Trevor L. Hewitt, 23, of Bainbridge was driving his 1993 Plymouth Laser southbound on Jackson Street when a truck driven by Jack O'Brien, 63, of Greencastle pulled out in front of him, striking the passenger side of Hewitt's car. O'Brien told police he did not see Hewitt's car until it was too late and could not avoid the collision. A passenger in Hewitt's vehicle was transported to Putnam County Hospital for observation.

  • I never try to cross traffic at this and several other intersections. The parking blocks the view of any traffic. I go to a stop light or an intersection where the view is clearer.

  • The driver of the Laser swerved left to avoid the impact, and exposed the passenger side to the oncoming Pickup Truck. It's a natural reaction by drivers to swerve away from danger. I learned this at CSI Miami College. I got a Red Badge in traffic accident investigation.
