Putnam County Jail

A Greencastle man was arrested and booked into the Putnam County Jail early Wednesday morning on charges of strangulation and battery with bodily injury.

A fight took place between Keith David Dailey, 45, and an unknown individual at the Free Spirit Shop, 15 S. Indiana St. Greencastle Police Department responded to a fight in progress at 11:37 p.m. inside the building.

Putnam County Operation Life was called to the scene and transported the victim to Putnam County Hospital. The extent of the victim's injuries is unknown.

Donald Martin, 40, Poland, was booked into the Putnam County Jail at 5:41 p.m. Tuesday for probation violation.

Ryan Johnson, 27, Cloverdale, was booked at 2:56 a.m. Wednesday for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Putnam County Sheriff's Department

Billy Zeffel, Bainbridge, was traveling on CR 575E at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a bridge wall. Zeffel swerved off the road to avoid a vehicle in the opposite lane traveling too fast while rounding a curve. There was an estimated $1,001 to $2,500 in damages.

Greencastle Fire Department

Crews were dispatched at 4:58 p.m. Tuesday to assist Parke County with a gas pipeline explosion in a rural area east of Rockville.

At about 4:15 p.m., a 36-inch natural gas pipeline, owned by Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line, exploded and caught fire. A cause for the explosion has yet to be determined.

Approximately 20 acres was lost to the fire.

They were back in service at 9:15 p.m.

Crews were dispatched to McClure gas station, 1148 S. Bloomington St., at 11:12 a.m. Wednesday due to a transformer explosion and fallen power lines.

Duke Energy responded and the fire crew was disregarded. They were back in service at 11:19 a.m.
