Gary D. Rubeck

Gary D. Rubeck, 68, Brazil, died unexpectedly at 6:44 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009 in the emergency room of St. Vincent Clay Hospital.

He was born Aug. 18, 1940 in Poland, the son of Lewis Rubeck and Thelma Henson Rubeck. He was a Cloverdale High School graduate and on Oct. 20, 1964, he married Sandra Parks Rubeck.

As a young man, he worked for Omar Company before leaving in March of 1966 to begin working for Wonder Bread in Terre Haute. He worked as a route man in the Greencastle and Cloverdale areas for Wonder Bread until his retirement in 1996. He was proud to have received "Top Salesman" award many times.

In 1997, he bought the Double-N-Diner and managed it until he suffered from a stroke in 1998. They later sold the diner and he concentrated his time on taking care of the lawn and garden, feeding the squirrels and best of all being "Poppy".

Mr. Rubeck had memberships in the Brazil Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Union No.144.

Survivors include his wife Sandy Rubeck; mother Thelma Oehler; two daughters Tammy Elder and Misty Rubeck Hoffman and husband Jimmy; three grandchildren, Austin Bullerdick, Crystal Mathers, Rochelle Bullerdick; five great-grandchildren, Dillion Hamilton, Katie Rose Hamilton, Ashtin Bullerdick, Laila Martin and Maddy Martin; one sister Veda Bussing and husband David all of Brazil.

His father and his stepfather Richard Oehler preceded him in death.

At his request, Mr. Rubeck will have no services and cremation will take place.
