Accused molester entering change of plea
A Fillmore man facing seven sex crime charges will go to court June 11 for a change of plea hearing.
Lee Alan Murphy, 35, has been charged with two counts of Class A felony child molesting, both punishable by up to 50 years in prison; two counts of Class B felony sexual misconduct with a minor, which carry a maximum sentence of 20 years each; Class C felonies child molesting and sexual misconduct with a minor, both punishable by up to eight years in prison; and a Class D felony count of dissemination of matter harmful to a minor, which could net him three years behind bars.
Murphy was arrested March 11, and remains at the Putnam County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond. At his initial hearing on March 13, Murphy pled not guilty to all charges. No formal plea agreement has yet been filed in the case.
The charges were brought against Murphy after representatives from Putnam County Child Protective Services contacted the Indiana State Police about a possible case of child molestation.
The alleged victim in the case told authorities that Murphy had made her perform various sexual acts, but that she was unsure of how long it had been going on.
Murphy met with ISP detectives at the Putnamville post, where he validated much of what the alleged victim had said, according to court records. Murphy told officers he believed the incidents involving himself and the alleged victim occurred between the summer of 2007 and the fall of 2008.
