Accused molester entering change of plea

Friday, May 22, 2009

A Fillmore man facing seven sex crime charges will go to court June 11 for a change of plea hearing.

Lee Alan Murphy, 35, has been charged with two counts of Class A felony child molesting, both punishable by up to 50 years in prison; two counts of Class B felony sexual misconduct with a minor, which carry a maximum sentence of 20 years each; Class C felonies child molesting and sexual misconduct with a minor, both punishable by up to eight years in prison; and a Class D felony count of dissemination of matter harmful to a minor, which could net him three years behind bars.

Murphy was arrested March 11, and remains at the Putnam County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond. At his initial hearing on March 13, Murphy pled not guilty to all charges. No formal plea agreement has yet been filed in the case.

The charges were brought against Murphy after representatives from Putnam County Child Protective Services contacted the Indiana State Police about a possible case of child molestation.

The alleged victim in the case told authorities that Murphy had made her perform various sexual acts, but that she was unsure of how long it had been going on.

Murphy met with ISP detectives at the Putnamville post, where he validated much of what the alleged victim had said, according to court records. Murphy told officers he believed the incidents involving himself and the alleged victim occurred between the summer of 2007 and the fall of 2008.

  • Judge Headley, Please send this molester to jail. He will not stop. Look at the evidence and it proves he is guilty, he even admitted it. The victim has been scared for life and forever will have trouble trusting anyone. STOP ABUSE NOW

  • Here we go again, isn't this like 5 CHILD MOLESTERS in less than a month? Headley, please put him away long enough to where he comes out in a coffin. It is not worth the risk to any child to have someone like this in our society.

  • notsoinnocent,

yes there has been 5 molesters reported in the last month!! That is bad huh? It sucks that people like that are in our community! The editor reports these stories because she says that it is what you all want to read. It is "juicy" so to speak.

Personally, I'm tired of it! Get some HAPPY stories on here for a change. the news is so depressing!

Go to the police website and you can search the pervs around you, use our paper for something better! Why give these nasty people the benefit of publicity?

Sometimes, it's the procecuters that just don't want to admit they are wrong too.

  • EC - wouldn't it be great if we also lived in Utopia! I prefer to remain informed of all news. I read "happy" news in the Banner all the time and I will also read the not so happy news. That is what a newspaper should report on, all the news. But if you prefer, you CAN only read the "happy" news, but it seems you also read the "juicy" news.

Yes, I do believe that sometimes the prosecutors and police do get it wrong, however, in this case the PERV admitted it. Put this one, and all others like him, away FOREVER. The only time they should leave prison is in a coffin.
