Thursday, May 28, 2009

McCloud Nature Park is welcoming guests of all ages to join the Indiana Astronomical Society for their monthly "First Quarter Moon Stargazing" event on Saturday with a presentation at 7:30 p.m. on the celestial sights of the evening followed by stargazing at dusk.

Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy stargazing at its finest in the darkest location in Hendricks County at McCloud Nature Park.

Visitors can meet at the McCloud Nature Center where guests will have a chance discover constellations, stars and planets as never seen before, followed by a look at the summer stars through professional scopes provided by Hendricks County Parks and Recreation and the members of the Indiana Astronomical Society.

Visitors are also encouraged to bring their own telescopes and binoculars if available.

The Indiana Astronomical Society is composed of amateur astronomers that are dedicated to the pursuit of astronomy for professionals, amateurs, avid skywatchers and curious hobbyists.

Other regular gatherings hosted by the society include technical meetings, telescope making classes, structured observing sessions and star parties throughout the state.

This event is free and open to the community. McCloud Nature Park is located at 8518 North Hughes Road. The park is open daily, and the nature center is open Monday though Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Sundays.
