The Putnam County Red Cross is looking for teams for its second annual golf invitational on June 19 at Old Hickory Golf Course.

Anyone wishing to enter the four-person team scramble is welcome at a cost of $55 per person.

"We had 10 teams last year and would like to have 18 this year. You know, we have 18 holes so let's get 18 teams," said Ginger Scott, member of the Red Cross Leadership Council.

Hole sponsorships are $50, fleet sponsorships are $250, putting green is $100, drink sponsor $250, mulligan sponsor $350 and registration is $100. The organization is also looking for a lunch sponsor for $500.

Current sponsors for the event include Old Hickory Golf Course as the golf sponsor, The Waters of Greencastle as the drink cart sponsor, Mill Pond Healthcare as the fleet sponsor, Cunningham Insurance as the registration sponsor and Asbury Towers, Kevin and Margaret McCullouth and First National Bank as putting green sponsors.

Since 1881, the American Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. Founded by visionary leader Clara Barton, the Red Cross is part of a worldwide movement offering neutral humanitarian care to victims of war and natural disasters.

Over the years, the organization has expanded its services, always with the aim of preventing and relieving suffering.

Today, in addition to domestic disaster relief, the American Red Cross offers compassionate services in five other areas: community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs.

Events such as the golf invitational help raise funds to support the Red Cross efforts.

"Sponsorships include signage for the company or individual including a name, logo or message. They will be prominently displayed in the sponsorship area," said Chasity Wood, Putnam County Red Cross Director.

The Scramble features a four-player scramble format with a shotgun start at noon. The entry fee of $55 per person includes golf, cart, lunch and door prizes.

"I hope people will consider the American Red Cross, Putnam County Unit in their charitable contributions this year," added Wood.

Anyone interested in playing in the 2009 Invitational should contact Wood at chasity@thewoodteam.biz or call 653-6774 by June 10. Make checks payable to ARC, Putnam, Co. Unit, PO Box 793, Greencastle.
