Chief's celebrates first anniversary
For the past year, Chief's restaurant has been "keeping Greencastle funky."
To celebrate the restaurant's first anniversary, owner Steve Geabes and manager Indy New are planning a street fair, which will take place Saturday and cap off a week of specials at the restaurant.
The street fair will feature local artists and some of the vendors from the farmer's market. Attendees will find jewelry, a henna artist, tie-dye items, representatives from Bright Futures and barbecue on the smoker at the street fair.
Live music will begin at 2 p.m. with singer/songwriter Mary Michael, who also plays the acoustic guitar and will give the crowd a various music selection. The alternative country and rock band Saturday Shoes will play at 3 p.m., followed by Randy Albright/Sandy Williams Experience performing Hendrix. At 5 p.m., Anon & the Late Show will take the stage.
In addition, the Putnam County Duct Tape Competition will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to the public.
The idea behind the event is to be a model for other Greencastle businesses and the city, Geabes said. It is not just a one-year anniversary celebration; it is a way of bringing the community together.
"It is going to be a fun day," said New, who encouraged people to bring chairs, sit and stay a while.
The fair will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the restaurant will be open with full menu available. Chief's regular business hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., for lunch; Monday through Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. for dinner and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The restaurant is located at 5 E. Franklin St, right off the historical courthouse square in downtown Greencastle.
