Bartley headed back to prison

A Greencastle woman who violated the terms of her home detention is headed to prison.

Lori Bartley, 45, was sentenced on Jan. 11 to a three-year Department of Correction sentence on a Class D felony possession of cocaine charge that dated back to September 1998. Bartley and another woman, Dana Michelle Trojan, 41, were arrested and charged with Class B felony dealing in cocaine, Class D felony possession of cocaine and Class A possession of paraphernalia.

Bartley was arrested after a confidential informant told police she and Trojan came into Greencastle to sell crack cocaine on the weekends, court records said. The informant made drug buys while under officer surveillance, and officers found drugs, guns and paraphernalia

When the women failed to appear for their sentencing dates on Jan. 27, 1999, warrants were issued for their arrests. They were not arrested until this past November, when they turned themselves in. They appeared in court on Nov. 17 and were ordered held without bond.

Both women pleaded guilty to a Class D felony and received the same sentence in January -- three years (the maximum for a Class D felony) with one year executed at the DOC, one year on home detention and the balance suspended. Bartley and Trojan both received credit for the 100 days they had already been in jail.

Bartley was transferred to Putnam County Community Corrections on March 3. On June 27, home detention officers Nate O'Hair and Jason Chambers conducted a home visit at Bartley's residence.

O'Hair and Chambers noticed Bartley was stumbling and that she had smelled of alcohol, an affidavit of probable cause said.

Bartley agreed to a portable breath test, the affidavit said, but then failed to comply with the officers or follow instructions. O'Hair and Chambers handcuffed Bartley and transported her to the Putnam County Hospital for a blood alcohol test.

"During the period of being at the Putnam County Hospital, Lori Bartley was very uncooperative and disrespectful to the hospital staff and officers O'Hair and Chambers," the affidavit said.

Bartley's blood test showed she had a blood alcohol content of .28 percent -- a high enough level that she had to be evaluated by an emergency room physician at the hospital.

Once doctors were sure Bartley would suffer no complications, she was released back into the custody of O'Hair and Chambers and taken to the Putnam County Jail.

In court, Bartley admitted to violating the terms of house arrest. Judge Matthew Headley granted O'Hair's request to revoke Bartley's home detention, and ordered that she spend the balance of her sentence at a DOC facility.

Bartley remains at the Putnam County Jail awaiting transfer to prison.

According to the IDOC Web site, Trojan is incarcerated at the Indianapolis Women's Work Release Center. Her earliest release date is listed as Aug. 30.
