CLOVERDALE -- Cloverdale School Board announced it has hired Brent Sailor as the new high school assistant principal and Sheila Anderson as middle school principal.

Cloverdale High School will be getting more than just a new assistant principal. The board hired Amanda Hampton as a chemistry teacher and Greg Thomas as a business teacher.

In addition, Bonnie Helterbrand will be replacing Erin Sinclair as the high school receptionist and athletic secretary. Helterbrand has already been in the position temporarily, but was given full-time status.

Director of Extended Services Howard Bowen will not be returning to Cloverdale Community School Corporation. Bowen's contract was not renewed due to his position being eliminated.

Bowen had been with the corporation for three years.

Superintendent Carrie Milner said they might find someone in the future to take over Bowen's responsibilities, but for now there is not room for his position.

Board member Tony Hacker voted against the personnel changes. He said he supports the individuals who were hired, but has some procedural concerns.

Hacker wished luck to the students and staff in the 2009-2010 school year and to those not returning.

In other business:

* Board members Donna Fiddler, Dave Brinkman, Linda Mann and Bobbi Nees stood and took the oath of office at the beginning of Monday night's meeting.

* The board held an election of officers for the 2009-2010 school year during its meeting Monday night. They are Pamelia Hepfer, president; Linda Mann, vice president; and Donna Fiddler, secretary.

* Board members voted to appoint Debbie Leonard as corporation treasurer, Terri Bailey as deputy treasurer and Karen Dutcher of Ice Miller as the corporation's attorney.

  • Odd that Bowens position is now eliminated and his duties will be performed later by others. When the Supt.created that position a few years ago, many knew then it was not needed and was a waste of tax payer dollars. How much has Mrs.Milner wasted on that mistake and any guess as to how soon she magically recreates the position for yet another friend or family?Stay tuned. As for the new teachers,do they currently have their license to teach? Isn't it a requirement of the Corp and Board before hiring?School starts in a few weeks.. Also, I was wondering when Mrs.Milner is going to explain to the public why Mr.Brookshire(the middle school principal formerly)resigned?Last we heard she was doing an investigation and more details were to be released later.Has the Banner dropped the ball on that or has Milner pushed that way under the rug? I cant believe any Supt worth their salt would stand by and send a problem like that to another school like nothing ever happened. Many of us are still waiting for t hat update from the Supt. or the reporter from the Banner. After all,the job of a true reporter is to report the news, not help hide it.

  • Be careful there. Any school administrator MUST be cautious when dealing with a dismissal/resignation due to privacy issues. Many times administrators and school boards say, "We cannot give details because it is a personnel issue." While that sounds like a cop-out, it is true. It is frustrating to the public to not know the facts, those in charge cannot tell all they know. Doesn't sound fair, but that is the way it is. The best thing to do is let the administrators and board do their job, support them, and move on. Support the new people and make Cloverdale a better place. Congratulations to our new administrators! Welcome!
