Roy Gayle Boling, 75, of Patriot died on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg.

He was born in Riley Township, Vigo County on Aug. 7, 1933 to Roy Franklin and Mattie Ellis Boling.

He was raised in Vigo County and was 1951 graduate of Blackhawk High School. He was inducted in the United States Army, rising to the rank of private, serving during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He received his teaching license in 1964 from Indiana State University and his principal's license in 1969 from ISU.

He was united in marriage with C. Janette Heady on March 12, 1955, in Terre Haute. To this union arrived a daughter and two sons to bless their home. Roy Gayle and Janette enjoyed over 54 years of marriage together.

Mr. Boling was employed for 14 years at the Visking Corporation in Terre Haute. He taught for two years and was the Assistant Principal at the Greencastle Middle School in Greencastle. He was principal at the Greencastle Middle School for 19 years, retiring in 1992 after 28 years of service to the school corporation.

Roy Gayle and Janette had resided in Patriot for the past nine years, where they were members of the Patriot Baptist Church. Roy Gayle was President of the Patriot and Posey Park Board. He was also a member of the Indiana Retired Teacher's Association. He will be remembered for his love of boating, fishing, woodworking and his devotion to his church and community service.

He is survived by his wife; daughter Janet Boling Larch and husband Martin of Indianapolis; two sons, Timothy D. Boling and wife Mary of Avon and Ronald Gayle Boling and wife Cynthia of Griswold, Conn.; eight grandchildren, Jayson, Ian, Brett, Erika, Michael, Kelsey, Christopher and Hanna; four great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Ruby Jane, John Ambrose and Zachary; two brothers, Don Boling of Farmersburg, and Darrell Boling of Warsaw; and several nieces & nephews;

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandchildren Jennifer Marie Boling, Daniel Robert Boling and Riley Larch; and his sister Dixie Pound.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Patriot Baptist Church in Patriot with the Rev. Mike Jones officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley, with graveside services at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Military rites will be conducted by the honor guard at the cemetery.

Calling will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Haskell and Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry St., Vevay, IN and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
