Tax statements in the mail

Thursday, July 16, 2009

Putnam County Treasurer Janet Deaton announced recently that all property tax statements have been mailed.

Anyone who does not receive their statement may call the treasurer's office at 653-4510 to inquire about their statement. Failure to receive the statement will not relieve the property owner of taxes and/or penalties that may be due.

The first installment taxes are due July 24. The second installment taxes are due Nov. 10. Taxes may be paid at any branch of Tri County Bank, First National Bank, Old National Bank or North Salem State Bank. One must have the tax statement and not be delinquent to pay at the banks.

Taxes may also be paid at the treasurer's office on the second floor of the courthouse or by mail. All mail must be sent to P.O. Box 508, Greencastle, IN 46135 and be postmarked on or before July 24 to avoid a 10 percent late penalty.

For a returned receipt, enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
