GREENCASTLE -- It wasn't pretty, but it was a win.

The Lady Tiger Cubs golf squad picked up its second win of the season over West Vigo, 220-239. Even though it was high score, the team was happy with the results.

"We did a lot better today," Chelsea Samuels said. "We ironed out some errors that we had in the first match, and everybody played much better today."

Compared to Monday's score, Wednesday's total was an improvement. In three days, Greencastle shaved 15 strokes off their total and the season has just begun.

"This was a big improvement from Monday," GHS Coach Brad Kingma said. "And hopefully we have ironed out some of those early season jitters."

Not even the wet grounds could slow down the charging Lady Tiger Cubs, with Chelsea Samuels and Katie Hedge improving the most from Monday. Samuels earned the medalist honors carding a 45, stripping six strokes off her score, while Hedge cut 13 strokes off her score from Monday, turning in a 49 for the day.

Diane Wokoun followed suit in lowering her score shooting a 51 Wednesday, eight strokes better than Monday's outing. Makenzie St. Marie rounded out Greencastle's score with a 75.

"We have an 18-hole tournament (today) on a course that isn't as hard as this one, so hopefully we see some lower scores," Kingma said. "We have a lot of matches this season, so we have some time to work on our scores.

"Basically it all comes down to the last week of the season where you want to play your best," he added.

Greencastle is back in action today when it takes part in the 21-team, 18-hole McCutcheon tournament in West Lafayette at the Ravines golf course, starting at 9 a.m.
