Glen McCarty Furr, 95, of Cloverdale died Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 at the Asbury Towers Healthcare.

Born Sept. 12, 1913 in Cloverdale Township of Putnam County, he was the son of Cornelius McCarty and Nancy Elizabeth Evans Furr. He was a 1930 graduate of Cloverdale High School and attended Indiana State Teachers College for two years. He married Eileen M. Hadley on July 4, 1933 and she preceded him in death on Sept. 12, 2005.

Mr. Furr had owned and operated the Glen Furr Agency in Cloverdale for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a 70 year member of the Cloverdale Masonic Lodge #132 F&AM, currently serving as Chaplain and a Past Master; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Terre Haute, having received his 33 degree of Scottish Rite; the York Rite; and the Cloverdale Eastern Star #369, having served as Past Worthy Patron;

Survivors include his children, Mack L. Furr and wife Sharon of Indianapolis, Ruthanne Furr of Cloverdale, Phyllis Kirby and husband Harry of Cloverdale and Glen M. Furr and wife Susan of Cloverdale; seven grandchildren, Mack A. Furr and wife Laura of Indianapolis, Gary D. Furr and wife Kimberly of Indianapolis, Glen L. Furr and wife Crystal of Gosport, Kenneth J. Furr of Terre Haute, Dennis M. Furr of Cloverdale, Carolyn E. Furr of Cloverdale and Steven R. Furr of Bloomington; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Gerl Furr; and three sisters, Mary Cleo Truesdel, Ida Aral Groner and Wilma Phyllis Mann.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Cloverdale Cemetery.

Calling will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, with a memorial Masonic lodge service to be held at 8 p.m.
