Knoy summer activities considered 'a huge success'

CLOVERDALE -- The main topic at the school board meeting Monday was this year's summer camp program, Knoy Kidopolis and Kamp Knoy.

Toni Tomlinson, coordinator of Knoy Resource Center, told board members, "It was a huge success."

The camp had 182 students in first to fourth grades participate, with 92 students in fifth to eighth grades. During the camp, children began their day with academic enrichment and continued with a wide variety of activities in the afternoon.

Activities such as cooking, Vex robotics, Web design, music, art and physical fitness skills, which included basketball, football, wrestling, cross country and volleyball, were offered.

"It was an outstanding summer program," said Tomlinson.

Following the program, parents participated in a survey. Those surveys showed positive feedback with an average score of 4.82 on a 5-point scale on the success of the camp. Twenty-three of the parents gave it a perfect score.

The summer camp was a free service for Cloverdale Community School Corporation students and included transportation. It was funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, administered through the state.

Tomlinson told board members there were more than 2,000 breakfasts and 3,130 lunches served during the program.

Breakfast, lunch and snacks were provided through the Indiana Department of Education's summer foods program.

In addition, Tomlinson asked the board to consider giving the program more time next year due to the amount of success this year. Board members agreed to take it under consideration.
