The 2009 Annual Meeting and Preservation Honors of the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana will include tours of Monument Circle and War Memorials in downtown Indianapolis following the meeting on Sept. 12.

"Long before traffic engineers' recent infatuation with roundabouts, Alexander Ralston placed one at the heart of his 1821 plan for Indiana's fledgling capital," says information from HLFI.

During the Monument Circle tour the history and architecture of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument and the surrounding landmarks plus a quick look inside the Columbia Club will be part of the tour.

The Memorials tour includes the Civil War commemoration of Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument. Then the group will head over to the Indiana War Memorial Plaza historic district.

The meeting takes place at Christ Church Cathedral on Monument Circle from 3-4:45 p.m. From 5-6:30 p.m.

The optional tours require reservations. At 1:30 p.m. there will be a tour of Monument Circle and a tour of Indiana War Memorials. These will repeat at 5:30 p.m. Cost for the tours is $5 for members of HLFI.

Cost to attend the annual meeting is $35 per member or $55 per nonmembers and includes an annual membership. Reservations are due by Sept. 4.
