Pretrial set for alleged molester

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

GREENCASTLE -- An Indianapolis man has pled not guilty in Putnam County Superior Court to Class C felony child molesting.

Robbie G. Stanton, 34, remained at the Putnam County Jail Tuesday. Judge Charles D. Bridges set Stanton's bond at $25,000 cash only, and a pretrial conference was set for Oct. 5.

Stanton's arrest came about as the result of an investigation conducted by Putnam County Sheriff's Department Detective Capt. Michael J. Biggs. Information about an alleged molestation of a female minor came to the sheriff's department after it was reported to the Greencastle Police Department, court records said.

Biggs worked on the investigation in cooperation with representatives from the Putnam County Division of Child Protective Services.

Before Stanton could be interviewed by police, Biggs received a call from Putnam County CPS stating that they had been contacted by the Hendricks County CPS division informing them that "Robbie Stanton had recently admitted himself into the Hendricks County Mental Stress Facility and that, during take-in interviews, Stanton had informed them that he was suffering with anger management issues" and had previously sexually molested the alleged victim, court records said.

Biggs made contact with Stanton's attending psychiatrist in Hendricks County, and was told Stanton "had been diagnosed with additional, underlying mental issues" and had been given prescription drugs.

When Biggs interviewed him, Stanton said he had sought mental health care to "correct his previous actions" and "discover what was wrong with him," court documents said.

"He stated that during his commitment and evaluation he was diagnosed with schizophrenia which causes him to have a rather Jekyll and Hyde personality," Biggs wrote in his narrative. "Robbie further stated that, prior to his commitment, he had been feeling 'bad' and he had buzzing and whisperings in his head."

Biggs went on to say that Stanton admitted the allegations during the interview, but said he was intoxicated when he committed the acts.

"He stated that he wouldn't say the allegations were not true; he just couldn't remember what he had done," Biggs said.

Three alleged incidents -- described in court documents as fondlings -- occurred about two years ago at two separate locations in Fillmore. The victim was 11 years old at the time.

The alleged victim's mother told police the girl told her in mid-July that Stanton had molested her "on several occasions," court documents said. The mother told police she had confronted Stanton about the alleged victim's accusations, and that Stanton had admitted to the molestations.

Class C felonies are punishable by up to eight years in prison.

Stanton has no major criminal history.

  • Responding to guesswhonow! Can you read. He admitted to the crime to detective Biggs. Re-read the story. And this crime is only punishable by 8 Years. Should be 8 feet under the jail for people that commit this kind of crime!!!!!!!

  • This criminal is not from Indianapolis, he's been living in Fillmore, Greencastle and Coatesville for the last several years. This is fact and can be proven.

  • I see that our favorite poster guesswhonow is on this story defending another child molester. This one is even more obvious then the other one they keep defending. This person admitted to doing this. Maybe this person can take a plea bargain and walk away too. This is the problem too many people are trying to defend these sick people. If they are guilty they need to have pictures posted all over town. As a parent I would never want my child around these people.
