CLOVERDALE -- Two strokes.

That was all that stood between the Lady Clovers and victory. South Putnam edged Cloverdale, 205-207, for the third time in as many weeks.

"We were only two strokes off and those two strokes were available," CHS coach Ken Williams said. "We had some players falling apart on us out there."

Some of his players might have been falling apart on him out on the course, but no one was shooting their best Monday.

South Putnam's No.1 Heather Hughes shot a 43 for the day, earning the medalist honors. According the SPHS senior, nothing was going right.

"Nothing was going good for me," Hughes said. "Usually you have something positive to say about your round, but I don't. Every shot was so not right for me.

"It was just one of those days. You go through and plan everything out in your head and nothing goes that way," Hughes added

Hughes started out badly when she struggled off her first tee and bogeyed the hole, but bounced back and pared the next two holes. She then double bogeyed on No. 15 and bogeyed the following two holes, before paring the 18th hole.

"I just didn't score well today," Hughes said. "My score is the lowest, but I'm not pleased with it. I like to shoot 40 or below."

Kayla Langdon, Cloverdale's No.1, was having one of those days also, but hers was due to what she went through earlier in the day. After spending four hours in a dentist chair, Langdon came out and fired a 46.

"I just got frustrated out there," Langdon said. "I was trying not to think about my mouth hurting. It was just hard for me to concentrate on every hole."

Langdon was also a victim of a fluke situation.

After a great tee off on the 13th hole, Langdon hit her ball into a tall patch of weeds. When she was about to punch it out the weeds, her ball rolled back into a snake hole forcing her to take a penalty stroke for a drop.

"I still can't believe that my ball rolled into that snake hole," Langdon said.

Williams attributed his team's performance to the fact that some of his players couldn't hold their emotions together.

"We have some players hurting this team because they can't control their emotions on the course," Williams said. "They think that they have to hit every ball perfect and you're not going to. Bad things happen and we have to respond to them better.

"We are giving strokes away because we can't control our emotions," Williams said. "Our younger players are having a hard time responding to having a bad round. We should have done better than this."

Also scoring for the Clovers was Elizabeth Wiley who turned in a 54, after paring her last and her first hole of the day followed by Victoria Boyette who carded an impressive 48. Rounding out the Cloverdale golfers was Sydney Shrum, who finished the day with a 59.

Grace Aker followed Hughes' score with a 47, while Cierra Perry turned in a 52 and rounding out South Putnam's scoring was Kelsey Searles with a 63.
