Freshmen pace young Tiger Cubs cross country

TERRE HAUTE -- Colleen Weatherford and Kayla Cash led the Greencastle High School girls' cross country team Saturday at the Terre Haute South Invitational.

Greencastle finished fourth in the invite with Weatherford finished 10th with a time of 21:55 while Cash came in 19th with a time of 22:37.

"Our girls ran well overall with our two freshmen leading the way," GHS coach Garry Anderson said. "Both girls were able to finish in the top 20 with very respectable times while competing against several individual state qualifiers.

"I was pleased with the rest of the team competed well considering the conditions and competition. The course had several places where there was standing water, very tall grass and very windy conditions that made times to be somewhat slower than normal for all those that raced Saturday," Anderson added. "The girls know they are capable of doing better and will get another chance at another tough invite next Saturday."

Greencastle is back in action on Saturday when it takes part in the McCutcheon Stampede in Lafayette, starting at 9 a.m.
