CRAWFORDSVILLE -- In boys' soccer action, the Greencastle Tiger Cubs traveled to Crawfordsville Tues night to take on the host Athenians.

The first half was played fairly evenly, with both teams recording five shots on goal.

It was the Athenians that got on the board first, when senior Austin Evans slipped a crossing shot past GHS keeper Kyle Parker with 33:34 to play in the opening half. It was the first goal scored against a tough GHS defense this season, and came on a long run through the back line.

"We knew coming in to the match that Crawfordsville was going to be a tough opponent. They won at regionals two years ago and made it to the regional finals last year. We wanted to get ahead of them early but instead found ourselves playing from behind." Dave Lilly

GHS controlled possession as well as out shot the Athenians 11-3 in the second half. J.T. Hennette connected on a pass from David Cath about 25 yards out and blasted a shot past CHS keeper Jim Miller with 24:45 remaining in the match.

GHS gained the momentum and kept pressure on Crawfordsville for the remainder of the game, but the Athenians were able to hang on and the game ended in a draw.

In JV action, the teams also played to a draw. There was no score in the first half. The Tiger Cubs took the lead with 13:17 to play when Cody Watson hit a corner kick just over the fingertips of the CHS keeper. Mitchell Ball was on the back post and volleyed a shot into the net for the goal.

It looked like the Tiger Cubs had the match under control until Brian Perkins broke through he back line and hit a shot that was deflected by GHS keeper Jon Good with 50 seconds to play. Unfortunately the ball bounced up and into the back corner of the goal to tie the score at 1-1.

GHS (2-0-1) will be back inaction on Thursday when they travel to Danville to take on the Warriors.
