The impact of random acts of kindness

To the Editor:

How many of us are fortunate enough to experience random acts of kindness?

Does the giver realize the impact their actions have on the recipient's life? These are questions I pondering today after experiencing a random act of kindness.

This morning as I inched forward in the line at McDonalds, I noticed the SUV in front of me had an "In God We Trust" license plate. Those four words really stood out to me this particular day because of difficult challenges I had been facing all week long. When it was my turn to pay, the cashier said the person in front of me already paid for my order. I was overwhelmed!

This random act of kindness from a stranger may seem trivial to some people, but you have to look beyond the surface to understand its impact on me. At a time when my spirit was at a very low point, God worked through another human being to show me kindness in a simple, yet effective way. This random act of kindness is the epitome of Christian love and unconditional giving - kindness that is freely given by a person who is not seeking recognition.

I hope others are as fortunate as I am and have the opportunity to experience a random act of kindness -- as either the giver or the receiver. Thank you to the person behind the wheel of the SUV for touching my heart at a time when I truly needed it and to God for continually reminding me about His role in my life.
