Bond modified for accused molester

Friday, September 11, 2009

GREENCASTLE -- Despite a reduction in his bond, a Coatesville man accused of child molesting remained in the Putnam County Jail Thursday night.

On Thursday, Putnam County Superior Court Judge Charles Bridges modified the bond for Robbie G. Stanton, 34, from $25,000 cash only to $20,000 with 10 percent allowed or $15,000 surety. A hearing on the motion for bond reduction was held Wednesday, and Bridges took the matter under advisement at that time.

Stanton is charged with Class C felony child molesting. He was arrested on Aug. 5 at the conclusion of an investigation conducted by Putnam County Sheriff's Department Detective Michael Biggs. According to court documents, Stanton fondled an 11-year-old girl several times.

If he is convicted on the charge, Stanton could receive a maximum prison sentence of eight years.

A narrative on the case said Stanton voluntarily checked himself in to a mental health facility just prior to his arrest, and that he had admitted to facility personnel during his intake interview that he had a problem with anger management and that he had molested the alleged victim.

Court records indicated that Stanton had been diagnosed with "underlying mental issues," and that doctors had prescribed medication for him.

Stanton also told hospital personnel that he was drunk when he molested the victim, court documents said.

At his initial hearing on Aug. 7, Stanton pled not guilty.

Stanton is being represented by Greencastle attorney Darrell Felling.

Stanton, who has no major criminal history, is set to be in court Oct. 5 for a pretrial conference.

  • Love it Notagain! I never will understand what these judges are thinking! I have an 11 year old little girl. I sure wouldn't want to be back out on the streets if I were him anddid something to her!

  • OMG!!! I cannot believe Judge Bridges would give this self professed child molester the possibility to get out of jail. What is going to stop him from doing it again and again and again? I bet if he was released to live next door to Bridges he would have thought differently. Is the public going to know where he is, so we can protect our children? These are things that I remember when it comes time to vote. Where is common sense these days? notagain, I agree that is exactly what he needs.
