GREENCASTLE -- Creating an elegant spa and salon has been a dream Rhonda Stonebraker has poured her heart and soul into.

The Mona Lisa Spa and Salon opened last March, and recently celebrated joining the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon cutting.

The new salon takes the place of the Victorian Day Spa that experienced a series of problems, forcing Stonebraker to close the popular business located in a renovated Victorian house.

The business experienced financial issues after moving a second house to the property as a bed and breakfast. The spa business was continuing to grow, but the expense and lack of traffic to the bed and breakfast forced Stonebraker to close.

Then in Sept. 2008 a fire broke out in the Spa building, causing enormous damage.

"It's hard to lose something you have poured you heat and soul into, but I can say I followed my dream and made it happen," Stonebraker said. "I have no regrets, as it was an amazing experience."

When she paid to move the massive house from DePauw University's campus in 2002, her vision was to create a spa and salon that could give weary Putnam County residents an escape from daily rigors.

"My dream was to create a peaceful get-a-way; a place to escape for an hour or a day; a place where you can leave your cares at the door and let us take care of you and pamper you," said Stonebraker. "I've tried to carry on that tradition in our new location."

The Mona Lisa Spa and Salon offers spa packages, parties for weddings and other occasions, body scrubs and masks, body wraps, facials, massages and a full array of salon services.

"We strive to make you feel better with a new haircut or color, maybe a pedicure to show off your pretty polished toes or even to help you relax with a stress reducing massage or facial," she said. "We still offer a variety of spa and make-over packages, with a student and princess package for your younger spa enthusiast. We can also create a beautiful look for proms, weddings or other special occasions."

Spa packages start at $165 for the Rejuvenation Package that includes an herbal facial, hibernation wrap and brown sugar body scrub. Other packages include a Swedish massage package for $170, Aromatherapy for $180, Heated Stone package for $190, Deep Tissue massage package for $180 and an Integrated Massage package for $185.

Make-over packages range from $110 to $270 and they include shampoo, styles, make-up, pedicures, manicures and other services.

Facials include deep pore, herbal, acne treatment, Plantomer lift off mask, smoothing and others. The spa also offers de-stress eye treatment and microdermabrasion.

Salon services run from $12 for a shampoo and style, $15 for a cut, $17 for a shampoo and cut and $22 for shampoo, cut and style. Children's prices, perms, make-up applications and waxing services are also available

The Mona Lisa also offers gift certificates, bridal, spa and birthday parties.
