Third annual Chalk Art Bash set for Saturday
GREENCASTLE -- Plans are well under way for the third annual Chalk Art Bash, scheduled to take place on the courthouse square, on Sept. 19.
"Bring your own chalk and you will receive an 8-foot-by-8-foot section of sidewalk in the Visitors Cove downtown Greencastle. Prizes will be awarded for the most original, most lifelike and people's choice," said Carla Lawless, Director of the Putnam County Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
Lawless fashioned the event, which encourages participants to create sidewalk art using chalk, after one that is held each year in the city of Fort Wayne. Lawless was pleased with the attendance at Greencastle's event last year and hopes to double the numbers this year.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and awards will be given out at 2 p.m. Cost per spot is $5 plus one canned good. All money will be given to the Return-A-Gift Charity, and canned goods will go to the Senior Center Food Bank.
Containers will be provided to each participant. People are asked to throw change into the can with the best chalk art for the people's choice award. Voting will end at noon.
Children ages 4-12 must have a parent or guardian present. The first 150 registrants will receive a T-shirt, and McDonald's will provide bottled water.
Greencastle Fire Department, along with Sparky and his pumper truck, will make an appearance at this year's event.
Sponsors for this year's event are First National Bank, McDonald's, Putnam County Convention and Visitor's Bureau, Duke Energy, Wal-Mart, Autumn Glen, Bright Futures and NuCor Steel.
Rain date for the event is Oct. 3. For information about the event contact the Putnam County Visitors Bureau at 653-8743 or 800-829-4639.
