PC Red Cross seeks volunteers

Monday, September 14, 2009

GREENCASTLE -- The Putnam County Unit of the Wabash Valley Chapter, American Red Cross is seeking volunteers to assist local victims of disaster. Helping others in times of need has always been a strength of the citizens in this community, and this is an opportunity to exercise that strength.

Annually, the county averages 9 to 11 fires that leave families in need of immediate shelter, food and clothing. The Red Cross is seeking individuals who would be willing to immediately respond with disaster assistance during their time of need. Responders are needed for all shifts, and scheduling can be flexible.

The goal is to find enough volunteers that each individual would be scheduled in two-week shifts to respond if disaster strikes.

A meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Courthouse Annex building for all interested candidates. People should park in the rear of the building and be directed from there.

Candidates must be 21 years of age with a valid driver's license and clean driving record, and pass a background security check. All necessary training will be provided free of charge.

  • I dont understand why volunteers have to be 21 and over?! I'm in the National Guard and would love to help out but I'm 18... seems odd that I can serve my Country and go over seas but I cant volunteer w/ the Red Cross?! Huh?!
