Senior Health Fair offers more than flu shots

Friday, September 18, 2009
There is always plenty of information available at the Putnam County Senior Health Fair. Last year, over 1,000 people attended the event.

GREENCASTLE -- Ham and beans, chili, senior information, bingo, live entertainment and flu shots will all be available at the annual Putnam County Health Fair set for Sept. 29. The event will take place at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Community Building from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This annual event brings together health-related vendors and senior citizens and provides flu and pneumonia shots. Individuals with Medicare Part B as their primary insurance must bring their card to get a shot at no cost. For others, the cost is $25 for flu shots and $40 for pneumonia shots.

Francie Bond and Jesse Perdue and his band featuring Bobby Johnston on the fiddle are on the entertainment venue for the day. Bingo will start at noon.

Four cash prizes will be given out this year. A $100, $50 and two $25 prizes will be awarded along with door prizes from each sponsor.

Ham and beans with cornbread and Peyton's Barbeque will be served.

The Senior Health Fair is sponsored in part by Summerfield Health Care Center. Additional sponsors include Asbury Towers, Comfort Keepers, Hayes Murphy Sharp Brackney Insurance, Putnam County Democrats, Putnam County Republicans, Day-by-Day Hospice, Case Chiropractic, Hearing One Professionals, Beltone, In-Home Care Plus, Autumn Glenn, First National Bank, Vista-Care and Senior Solutions.
