Tiger Cubs fall to Warriors in four sets

GREENCASTLE -- The Greencastle volleyball battled Turkey Run Tuesday, falling in four sets to the Warriors. The Tiger Cubs fell 24-26, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-22.

Chelsea Samuels led the GHS charge with 32 digs, 24 blocks, 10 stuff blocks, nine kills and one ace, while Kandice Phillips added 30 digs, 96 sets and two aces. Kayla Nobles recorded 55 digs and four kills.

Jordyn Lewis added 20 digs, 21 sets, four assists and one kill, with Hannah Cochran adding 17 digs, eight blocks, one stuff block and eight kills. Jessie Bennett chipped in 11 digs and two kills and Brooke Buckner added 19 digs.

Also for GHS, Kara Birt contributed 15 digs, while Braden Amis added four digs and two blocks. Rayleigh Amis five digs and Kylie Smotherman added two digs in the loss.

"I guess we still have not figured out what it takes to win," Tiger Cub head coach Trish Lowe said. "We sure have a lot to learn and not a lot of time to do it in.

"When the team is more important then the me, things may turn around for us," she added.

The junior varsity team defeated Turkey Run 25-14 and 25-23 for its third win of the season.

On Monday, Greencastle lost to Danville in four sets, losing 25-21, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-20.

Samuels led the team with 26 digs, followed by Nobles with 24 and Bennett 21.

The junior varsity also lost to the Warriors, falling 25-9 and 25-21.

Greencastle will host North Putnam Thursday at 6 p.m.
