Tiger Cubs record ninth shutout of the season

SPENCER -- The Greencastle boys' varsity soccer team traveled to Spencer Monday and concluded their regular season schedule with yet another shut out victory.

The Tiger Cubs defeated Owen Valley 6-0.

Greencastle went ahead early when sophomore Brandon Query scored with 36:22 to go in the opening half. Freshman Evan Smith added his first goal of the season at 25:39 and senior David Cath scored with 12:48 remaining to round out the first half scoring for the Tiger Cubs.

Greencastle controlled the second half as well, with juniors Cody Watson and Spencer Moore blasting shots past the Patriots keeper at 27:48 and 25:34, respectively, to extend the Greencastle lead to 5-0.

The Tiger Cubs were able to substitute freely throughout the second half, keeping fresh athletes on the pitch.

JT Hennette came into replace Parker at keeper with 14:35 to play and was quickly tested by the Patriots attack. He made a couple of nice saves to maintain the shut out.

Senior Josh Dunn scored the final goal of the night with 1:14 to play to give the Tiger Cubs the 6-0 win. It was the ninth shut out for the Tiger Cubs varsity team this season.

The Tiger Cubs (11-2-3) will travel to Mooresville and take on the host Pioneers in the opening match of IHSAA sectional play on Thursday at 5 p.m.
