Local student makes New York Times

GREENCASTLE -- Randall Jones was an excited father when he called the Banner Graphic early Thursday morning. His daughter Jeanette Jones, a Greencastle High School graduate and senior at DePauw University, had her picture is in the Home and Garden section of The New York Times.

The story focuses on The Elms, the DePauw University president's home. Jones is a student ambassador for University President Brian W. Casey.

The ambassadors help Casey, who is single, with hosting duties at the Elms and with other functions.

Sara Rimer, writer for the Times, visited Casey's home at DePauw last week and wrote a lengthy feature that includes several photographs of the house and Casey's ambassadors.

The article quotes Casey as commenting that he didn't have a Mrs. Brian Casey or a partner to help him. Instead he came up with a solution that involved the help of a group of students as his co-hosts.

Jones is one of those emissaries. She sent her father, Randall, an e-mail late Wednesday night with a link to the story in the Times.

"I just had to share. I wanted to call last night but knew you would be asleep. I'm so happy. Thank you for putting me through DePauw that allows for these experiences," said Jeanette in her e-mail.

Randall told the Banner Graphic he was happy about the article and glad they spelled Jeanette's name correctly.
