BRAZIL -- A press release provided by The Clay County Sheriff's Department revealed the victim of a single vehicle accident late Thursday evening was identified as a 15-year-old Northview High School student.

At approximately 8:53 p.m., CCSD officials were notified of the accident, which took place close to 700-feet south of County Road 1000 North on Kennedy's Crossing Road.

Upon arrival, officials discovered one of the passengers in the accident was unresponsive.

TransCare transported the passenger in the vehicle, later identified as 15-year-old Halie Hite, to St. Vincent Clay Hospital. She was later pronounced dead shortly after 10:30 p.m., by Clay County Coroner Joel Reinoehl, due to injuries sustained in the accident.

According to the press release, the driver of the vehicle, Cameron Sanders, 18, Brazil, told officials he was traveling north on Kennedy's Crossing and lost control of the vehicle, eventually running off the road and striking a tree on the driver side.

Sanders sustained minor injuries and was released from St. Vincent Clay Hospital early Friday morning.

The accident is still under investigation, according to CCSD officials.
