GREENCASTLE -- The Putnam County Community Foundation recently announced that the Rotary Club of Greencastle has established an endowment supporting the Putnam County Fairgrounds.

Income from the endowment will be used for the maintenance and beautification of the 4-H Fairgrounds sign, originally donated to the Putnam County Fair and 4-H Club Association Inc. by the Rotary Club of Greencastle in 2005.

"Because the Putnam County Fairgrounds has a strong tradition in the community, many do not realize the serious financial need of the organization," said Al Harwood, president-elect of the Putnam County Fair and 4-H Club Association. "We are very grateful for this support, and the opportunity to tell the community of the many ways they can make a difference by supporting the Putnam County Fairgrounds."

In 2005, the Rotary Club of Greencastle chose to purchase a sign for the Putnam County Fairgrounds as its Rotary Centennial project. Under the leadership of Chet Clodfelter, the Greencastle Rotary Club raised money and applied for grants, eventually purchasing and installing the sign, and providing a fund for the ongoing maintenance and care of the sign.

In 2009, Rotary Board members voted to establish an endowment for the Putnam County Fairgrounds sign and to apply for a $4,000 grant from the Putnam County Community Foundation that would match 50 percent of the contributions to the Endowment.

Murray Pride, president of Rotary, said the grant application had been approved and the Endowment would total $12,000 by the end of the year, paying more than $500 every year to the Fairgrounds.

Anyone may contribute to the Rotary Club of Greencastle Endowment, or start a new endowment in his/her own name. Contributions to the Endowment should be made payable to the Putnam County Community Foundation with "Rotary Club Endowment" in the memo, and mailed to 2 South Jackson Street, Greencastle, Indiana 46135. Contributions may also be made online at www.pcfoundation.org. Community Foundation staff are available to help donors make gifts of cash, stock, retirement assets, life insurance, bequests, real estate and other types of gifts to the Fund.

The Community Foundation administers more than 180 funds for donors, supporting a variety of charitable purposes. To learn more about this new fund, how to make a contribution, or how to start a new fund, visit www.pcfoundation.org or contact Eric Wolfe or Elaine Peck at 653-4978.
