Frances C. Ellis, 83, of Greencastle died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 at Mill Pond Health Campus.

She was born in Greencastle on April 30, 1926, the daughter of Samuel Edward and Margret Mace Brown. She married Lloyd M. Ellis on Feb. 10, 1946 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother Russell Brown.

Mrs. Ellis was co-owner of Ellis Tin Shop -- home of the Tin Man that she loved to put in holiday attire to share with the public. She was a lifetime member of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion. She was also a member of the VFW, where she held several offices. Frances was very involved in sewing and making crafts for everyone.

She is survived by two daughters, LaConda Pilkin and husband Dennis of Greencastle and Pamela Cummings and husband Allan of Fillmore; four grandsons, Lloyd Pilkin, Quentin Pilkin and wife Chasity, Paul Allan Cummings and wife Dana and Christopher Dale Cummings and wife Alexis; six great-grandchildren, Joseph Pilkin, Becca Pilkin, Dominic Pilkin, Ruby Rose Cummings, Hazel Myla Cummings and Paul Allan Cummings Jr.; two sisters, Lucille Wood and husband Bill and Alberta Thomas; brother Thomas Brown; brother-in-law, Melvin Ellis and wife Maxine; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with burial in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
