No tricks -- just treating people right

GREENCASTLE -- More than 15 local neighborhoods were trick or treated by 88 students and youth sponsors from Greencastle Christian Church's ONE80 youth group on Halloween night.

The group is hoping to fill over 800 boxes of food items to give to needy families. They are well on their way to doing so.

Earlier in the day on Halloween, flyers went out to five larger neighborhoods letting residents know students would be visiting and asking for donations.

"We have been so blessed by the overwhelming response of kindness shown by the local people. There was so much food collected we couldn't even count it," said Student Minister Lindsey Etcheson.

The food donated will be sorted into boxes. Other items such as milk, eggs and bread will be added to each.

"The students will be taking up a special offering at ONE80 to help fund additional food for the boxes. We will be handing out the boxes on Saturday, Nov. 21 to as many families as we can in the area who have visited our food pantry in the last year," added Etcheson.

Jacob Lewis, Adam Gerard, Brandon Gierke, Quinci Miller and Callan Taylor are trick or treating for food on Halloween night. They are part of a large group from Greencastle Christian Church collecting food to give to needy families.

The food collection is an ongoing service project started by Etcheson and her husband Braden, who is also a student minister at GCC.

"I couldn't be more proud of the students for their time, effort and love for others," Lindsey said.
