CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale School Board received several updates during its meeting Monday night.

The first update came from Dan Sulkoske, who has been working with the corporation on its greenhouse. The project has been completed and an open house has been scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

The new greenhouse replaced an old one at the high school. It was funded through a stimulus package and remaining money from other facility update projects.

Superintendent Carrie Milner told Sulkoske his services made the project more manageable and saved the corporation a lot of money.

Board president Pamelia Hepfer noted what a "wonderful job" Sulkoske had done on the project.

Tony Hacker, board member, added he was impressed with Sulkoske's work.

In the end, Sulkoske thanked the board members for providing him the opportunity to work with the corporation on its greenhouse project.

Cloverdale Middle School principal Shelia Anderson provided the second update to the board. Anderson spoke about the progress the middle school and students are making this school year.

Since it is Anderson's first year as principal, she explained some things have continued, such as the parent involvement team and working with United Way.

"Athletics have gone well this year," Anderson commented.

The Knoy Resource Center is new at the middle school. Anderson noted the increase in students utilizing the center.

"We started with 60 to 65 students per day and it continues to go up," she said.

She also stressed the value of academics before athletics, but not to discourage students from the extra-curricular activities. In the past, a student involved in athletics carry a failing grade was not allowed to participate.

"We have moved that up to a D-," she said.

The responses from students and coaches have been great, she added.

She talked about how the faculty is capitalizing on the technology provided by the corporation.

Following Anderson's update, John Davis briefed the board on the technology within the corporation. Davis is responsible for 886 computers, smart boards and the intercom systems, among other things.

He said there are 886 computers throughout the district and explained how the technology is working for the corporation. Faculty members have taken 69 hours of technology training collectively this year.

Under approvals were the C.E.A. contract, support staff and administration, use of facility requests, professional leave requests, field trip requests and the personnel report.
