Darryl D. Elmore, 69, of Plainfield, formerly of Greencastle, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 at his residence.

Born January 30, 1940 in Greencastle, he was the son of Gilbert and Helen Williams Elmore. He was a 1958 graduate of Greencastle High School.

Mr. Elmore was the owner and operator of the Western Edge Tack and Apparel Store in Plainfield for several years. He had previously been the caretaker of the Putnam County Saddle Club, trained horses and worked at Brackney's Western Store. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.

Survivors include his special friend, Carol Greene of Plainfield; three sisters, Gloria Martin and husband Ron of Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Linda Ross and husband Larry of Greencastle and Jo Henderson and husband Bruce of Greencastle; a brother-in-law, Al Pilkins of Marion; nieces and nephews Michelle, Marla, Amy, Sherry, Michael, Troy and Shawn; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Karen Pilkins in 2005.

A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Putnamville United Methodist Church with Pastor Valerie Best officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Putnamville Cemetery Endowment Fund, Putnamville, IN 46170.
