GFD promotes Burgess and App

John Burgess and Kyle App was sworn in by Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray as captain with the Greencastle Fire Department Monday morning.

GREENCASTLE -- Mayor Sue Murray swore in Greencastle Fire Department members John Burgess and Kyle App as captain and lieutenant, respectively, in a ceremony early Monday morning.

Burgess has been serving as a lieutenant and was promoted to captain. App then moved to the lieutenant position vacated by Burgess.

Both men are North Putnam High School graduates and Putnam County residents for most of their lives.

Burgess has been with the Greencastle Fire Department for over 14 years. He is married to Tammy Burgess and has three sons, John Jr., 20, Patrick, 18, and Brandon, 10.

App has been with GFD for eight and a half years and is married to Amy. The couple has three children, Britany, 8, Tyler, 6, and Isabella, 2.

"Both of these men are a great asset to the fire department. Their leadership has been growing and they will add a great deal to the department," said Greencastle Fire Chief Bill Newgent.

New GFD Lieutenant Kyle App gets a handshake from Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray upon his promotion Monday.

"Not only are they an asset for the day-to-day operations, but their level of experience and expertise adds to the everyday operations in the field as well," added Newgent.

Both men will take on their new duties immediately.
