SWCD receives further assonance with Big Walnut

GREENCASTLE -- The Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) has been awarded a second round of funding from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) for conservation practices along the Big Walnut Corridor.

The Big Walnut watershed begins with the headwaters in Boone County and meanders through Hendricks County before entering into Putnam County. Working in conjunction with Boone and Hendricks counties, the Putnam County SWCD has established a watershed plan for Big Walnut. From the results of the study for the watershed plan, implementation of best management practices are being developed to help keep Big Walnut at a pristine level of water quality.

The Big Walnut Watershed Alliance which was formed to work as a task force on the Big Walnut issue. They also oversee the funds and will be hosting a Holiday Open House on Dec. 15 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Bainbridge Community Center.

There will be activities for all ages, and attendees can learn about the watershed they live in. Light refreshments will be provided.
