Nellie L. Martin, 91, of Greencastle died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 at her residence.

Born June 19, 1918 in Brown County, she was the daughter of Edmond and Osa Nelson Marshall. She was a 1936 graduate of Greencastle High School and the Smart Appearance Beauty College. She married Alfred A. Martin on Sept. 7, 1938 and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1994.

Mrs. Martin had owned and operated the Three Sisters Beauty Salon; worked at the Angwell Curtain Factory; operated the Martin Camper and Bait Shop and the Poor House Ceramic Shop. She and her husband helped to found the National Campers and Hikers Association of Indiana.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Greencastle; the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; Long Branch Baptist Church; and the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include her son, Herschel A. "Bud" Martin and wife Judy of Morton, Ill.; a daughter, Joyce A. Green and husband, James of Greencastle; a sister, Beaulah Stafford and husband, Rex of Odon; three grandchildren, Bobbi Basore and husband Rob, Angie Wildermuth and husband Rob and Tracy Driscoll and husband Dan; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Eldon, Don and Clarence Marshall; and sisters, Hazel Marshall, Ruby Lawson, Mabel Mann and Doris Orr.

Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with the Rev. Patrick Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Boone Hutcheson Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13th at the funeral home with an Order of Eastern Star Memorial Service to be held at 7 p.m.
