Margaret L. Phillips, 91, of Brazil died at St. Vincent Clay Hospital, Friday, Jan. 15, 2010 following a brief illness.

She was born in Brazil, Sept. 11, 1918 to Charles O. and Clara A. Boes Hadley. Margaret graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1937. She married Charles W. Phillips on Dec. 24, 1938.

Margaret spent several years raising her four children. After they were grown she began working, first at Adamson's Laundry and then Finley's Grocery Store. Margaret retired from Mallory's in Greencastle in the late 1980s.

Following the passing of her husband in 1991, at the age of 72, she received her driver's license. In her free time, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching sports, TV game shows and her cat Angel. She was a member of the Harmony United Methodist Church.

Survivors include daughters Sandra Hayes of Staunton and Marilyn Wood and husband "Sonny" of Greencastle; sons Melvin Phillips and wife BJ of Brazil and Alan Phillips of Knightsville; grandchildren Randy Wood (Lisa), Kim Morrison, Melina Phillips, Heather Wells (Scott) and Shawn Phillips; great-grandchildren Dustin Wood, Kaileigh Morrison and Brett Morrison; as well as many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles Phillips, son Charles Phillips Jr., four brothers and three sisters; daughters-in-law Linda Phillips and Celesta Phillips; and son-in-law Wayne Hayes.

Services for Mrs. Phillips will be at French Funeral Home, Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Myron James officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Calling will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until time of services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Harmony United Methodist Church, 10195 N. Vine St. Harmony, IN 47835.
