Lemasters leads Tigers into weekend

GREENCASTLE -- The DPU men's basketball team welcomes Trinity and Southwestern for some January SCAC battling at the Lilly Center. The Tigers will play Trinity on Friday and Southwestern on Saturday.

Steve Lemasters and Sean Haseley are leading DePauw with 14.3 and 12.9 points, respectively. Both are averaging more than 40 percent from behind the arc, to give the Tigers a big time threat from outside.

Point guard Tony James, recently named the SCAC Player of the Week, is chipping in nine points per contest and leads the team with 78 assists. Tom Callen is putting up eight points and ranks third on the team with 4.5 rebounds per contest.

The Tigers are using a balanced attack this season while collecting their 12 wins. Six different players have led the team in scoring this season. DePauw's last victory gave head coach Bill Fenlon 300 wins at the helm of the Black and Gold.

The team is averaging 71 points a game, while bringing down 34 rebounds per contest. Overall, DePauw is sitting at 12-4 on the season and 5-2 in the conference. They are currently on a four-game win streak and are a perfect 5-0 at home this season.

Luke Caldarera is the only Trinity player to average double figures at 14 points a game and leads the team with an average of 8.4 rebounds per contest. Teammate Michael Tobowski follows closely with nine points a game. Both players have 18 steals on the season.

Saturday brings the 12-4 Southwestern Pirates to the court and their three-headed attack of Zach Bergstrom, Nick Caputo and Travis Barber.

Bergstrom, Caputo and Barber average just over 35 points per game for the Pirates and average a collective 14 rebounds per contest. Southwestern is on a three-game winning streak.

The Pirates are averaging 69 points per contest and 36 rebounds per game.
