Central Elementary celebrates 100 days of school

Central Elementary first grade students from Kelly Newby's class, along with kindergartners from Tammy York's class, showed off their "100" projects. Students wore necklaces made of 100 pieces of cereal and made posters with 100 items on them.

GREENCASTLE -- Students at Central Elementary School celebrated the 100th day of school recently. Kindergartners made 100 pancakes as well as creating posters with 100 items on them.

First graders in Kelly Newby's class did all kinds of activities centering around 100. They counted to 100 by ones, twos, fives and 10s. They wrote numbers from one to 100 and counted 100 cents using pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.

First graders also wrote 100 words they knew, such as color words, number words, short vowel and word wall words. All their work was completed in "100 day books" that went home with students at the end of the day.

Students in Newby's class credited classmate Nate Clearwaters with coming up with the idea of creating cereal necklaces last year.

"Yeah, I made one last year," admitted Clearwaters with a slight grin.

"The best part is we can eat them after we wear them," laughed another student.
