James Michael Shaughnessy, 74, died at Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 in Brazil.

He was born Jan. 12, 1936 in Putnam County to George and Izma Shaughnessy.

Mr. Shaughnessy retired from CSX Railroad where he worked as an agent-telegrapher and later as a brakeman conductor for 29 years. He was a member of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers and United Transportation Union. He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division from 1956 to 1958. He graduated from Greencastle High School with the class of 1954. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and loved his grandchildren dearly. He was an avid NASCAR fan of the late Dale Earnhardt.

Survivors include his brother Larry Shaughnessy and wife Evelyn of Pittsboro; son Michael O'Shaughnessy of Cedar Park, Texas; former wife Annis Shaughnessy of Brazil; daughter Echelle Brown of Lafayette; nephew Timothy Shaughnessy and wife Melanie and daughter Molly of Avon; stepdaughter Shannon Orman, stepdaughter Tami Davis and stepson Joseph Davis of Brazil; grandchildren Dakota and River Davis, Zoe and India Orman of Brazil, Tanner Johnson of Lafayette and Ryan and Cayla O'Shaughnessy of Cedar Park, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter Kathy Shaughnessy.

Services are at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, 4 N. Percy Julian Dr., Greencastle at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Friar Harold Rightor officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service.
