Clearing the Way

Sheriff Steve Fenwick takes a moment to clear a path in front of the Putnam County Jail Friday during a winter snowfall. Nearly five inches of snow was expected to fall in the area Friday. There is a 40 percent chance of more snow showers today with wind gusts around 30 mph.

  • Isn't that something that a newspaper person with a camera was around at the very same time.... Publicity stunt or not..... You call it!

  • Actually the Banner Graphic goes to the Sheriff's Office every day to retrieve accident records. The snow is what makes it a cool picture, not necessarily who is shoveling it. Your screen name makes me laugh. Maybe you should change it to Cynic!

  • Don't know the answer to your question obeone but if you drive by the jail you might just see him plowing snow too. I did a few weeks ago at 7:00 a.m.

  • What matters to me is that our local sheriff drew over $90,000.00 in 2009 from this county. How does a small county that can't afford much pay a Sheriff this much. (This figure came directly from the Banner Graphic this week, not rumors)

  • I would like to say "Thank You" to Sheriff Fenwick, he truly is a great guy! I think he is doing a great job and I hope that he decides to run for office again. It's good to see a public servant that helps the people and doesn't just sit behind a desk all day.

  • Hey Bored-n-Gcastle, $80,000.00 or $90,000.00 isn't enough for a man who puts his life on the line for us every day he goes to work! I have no ideas what the rest of his department makes, but police officers of fire department workers (notice I did't say men because there are a lot of women doing these jobs!)deserve every dime they get and it isn't enough! My hat off to all of them and may God watch over them.

  • interested party: my husband went to war three times, and barely made that in four years... he also doesn't get a gov't vehicle to drive around on tax payer money. I'm just saying... we don't necessarily live in a high crime area... 80 to 90 grand is a bit much! Not saying I'm not grateful for their services. I'm just saying, they've gotten how many new vehicles and atv's, and whatever else these past few years? I know most of those purchases come from "drug money" but it just seems like that money could be put to better use in bailing out our broke school district. But hey, Mr. Sheriff, right on for shoveling your sidewalks! You go!
