Windy Hill set to host 'Big Band Series'

GREENCASTLE -- You don't have to be a B-list celebrity, own a sequined leotard or understand the difference between the rumba and the cha-cha if you want to learn to dance. There are no such requirements when it comes to the "Big Band Series" at Windy Hill Country Club.

The series is modeled after the Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis with the addition of a group lesson prior to the open ball.

"We are offering the people of Greencastle a place to ballroom dance," said David Boswell, one of the event organizers.

Experienced dancers or beginners are welcome to attend any or all of the "Big Band Series," where the atmosphere will be dedicated to dance enthusiasts.

The dances will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 28, April 25, May 16, July 25, Sept. 26 and Nov. 14 at Windy Hill. There will be a cash bar and an opportunity to experience different forms of big band music, entertainment and performances.

Tickets will also be available at the door for $14.

"These dances are open to the public," said Boswell. "You don't have to be a member of Windy Hill to participate."

In addition to the semi-formal dances held at Windy Hill, interested dancers are invited to attend the Indiana Roof on March 21, June 27, Aug. 22, Sept. 19 and Nov. 21. Tickets for the "Roof" can be purchased online at www.indianaroof.com.

"People used to think ballroom dancing was your grandma's activity," wrote Angela Prince of USA Dance, the national governing body of DanceSport, the competitive version of ballroom dancing. "Not anymore."
