Jessica Canary earns All American honors at UIndy

TOWSON, Md. -- UIndy senior and South Putnam graduate Jessica Canary was named to the 2009-10 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division Third Team last Tuesday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The team's leading rebounder and second-leading scorer, Canary maintains a 3.90 cumulative GPA in Elementary Education.

As the first ever UIndy women's basketball player to earn the honor, Canary is the 43rd Greyhound to garner Academic All-America accolades and 31st since 2000. The versatile guard ranks in the league's top twenty in scoring, rebounding, assists, blocks and free throw percentage. She is also on track to become the first player in program history to finish her career with over 1300 points, 600 rebounds and 400 assists.

The Academic All-America honorees were voted on by nation's Sports Information Directors. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution.
