Friends of GFD raising funds for training system
GREENCASTLE -- On Feb. 26, Greencastle fire chief Bill Newgent, Friends of the Greencastle Fire Department president Louis Fontaine and GFD fire prevention officer Christy Glass received $500 from Duke Energy Foundation Grant to fund monies toward the purchase of a BullEx Digital Training System.
The BullEx Training System uses advanced laser technology to simulate the discharge of a dry-chemical or CO2 extinguisher for a completely clean, safe and effective training experience. Training could then take place completely indoors, in the actual work environment.
Not only will the BullEx Training system benefit the Greencastle Fire Department, but the local businesses, schools, companies, nursing homes, Putnam County Hospital, DePauw University and residents will be able to benefit.
The benefits of the BullEx Training System is that it is safe, environmentally-friendly and cost-effective.
The Friends of the Greencastle Fire Department organization was formed in the spring of 2001 and is comprised of people in the community who want to increase awareness of the Fire Department. Members of the Friends include the city's mayor, clerk-treasurer, a minister, the president of DePauw University and other community leaders and business people.
Their mission is fire prevention and education and they've raised awareness of the fire department in the community
Through the Duke Energy Foundation, they help improve the quality of life in communities that they serve by sharing their time through volunteer efforts, their expertise through leadership and their financial support through grants to charitable organizations.
