Beulah Maxine Pence, 88, of Greencastle and a former Frankfort resident passed away at 3:13 p.m. March 7, 2010.

She was a resident Asbury Towers, Greencastle, and passed away peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones.

Maxine was born Jan. 2, 1922 in Aurora. She was the daughter of Irwin A. & Edna (Reed) Payne.

She married Harold C. Pence on May 25, 1941 in Frankfort, and he passed away on June 16, 1983.

Maxine was a member of the First Baptist Church in Frankfort. She has worked at Harmesons and Jules Simon in Frankfort.

Surviving are a son, Harold C. (Exie) Pence of Frankfort; two daughters, Rita Pauline (Joe) Ferguson of Greencastle and Mary Marlene (Don) Spangle of Flora; four sisters Inez Pence of Frankfort, Charlene Birden of Michigantown, Helen Ray of Lafayette and Emmaline Staley of Raeford, NC; two brothers, Irwin Payne of Ocala, Fla. and William Payne of Lafayette; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Three brothers, Douglas, David and Don Payne, preceded her in death.


Funeral Services will be held at Goodwin Funeral Home in Frankfort on Thursday. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday.

Entombment will be in Greenlawn Mausoleum.

The Rev. Charles Williams, pastor of First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Steve Williams of Grace Tabernacle, Greencastle will be officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available.
