  • My Family and I celebrate and worship God and Christ EVERY Sunday.. NOT just on Easter - We do what GOD tells us in the Bible to do.

    This Sunday - 'churches' will be full for that 1 day of the year that people come togther and worship his death. That is suposed to happen EVERY Sunday! not just on a man-made holiday called Easter.

  • luv2bmom2001 - Why get so upset about people only going to church on Easter? Why not have a Christian attitude and realize it is one of our only times to get a chance to show these people what they are missing? We should be showing them the love and acceptance Jesus taught us, not condemnation. Many times these one-time church goers wind up hearing just what they need to hear to come back. Or they hear the message of judgment you just gave and don't come back.

    Of course Christians worship every day what Christ did for us, but does that mean you have to chastise those who have not gotten the message yet so that they don't ever want to come back? "The will know we are Christians by our love", not by our condemnation of those who don't measure up. Next Easter or Christmas, welcome those newcomers like our Lord would.

  • EVERYMOM - I encourage people to come and join us at church - not just 2 days a year. yes, people are going to come to church on easter sunday when you have egg hunts, dinner, and instrumental music - ALL of these NOT found in the Bible nor do we do this at the church I attend.

    The following is what Plainfield church of Christ did yesterday - something we do EVERY week LIKE it says in the Bible to do! Not just 2 days a year...

    _______

    According to the calendar, today, is "Easter Sunday". Most religious bodies swell their numbers as folks, who have not been in attendance for a year, will show up! Too many, it is a time for wearing new clothing and putting in their yearly apperance. What does the Plainfield church of Christ do on "Easter Sunday"?

    1) THE WORD 'Easter:"

    The word "Easter" Apperars in the King James Version in the Bible one time. "And when he apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people" (Acts 12:4). Every other time in this word, Easter, occurs and in other versions, it is translated "Passover." It should have been translated "Passover" in Acts 12:4.

    2) WHAT MANY churches WILL DO TODAY:

    A lot of churches around here will be having communion; some footwashing; special music, sermons on the ressurection, as they celebrate the ressurection of Christ. If these churches had been following the Bible they would have been doing the acts of worship all along!

    3) WHAT THE CHURCH OF CHRIST WILL DO TODAY:

    Since all of us are commanded to do the same thing every Sunday, why would we be doing anything different on "Easter Sunday?" So, on "Easter Sunday" we will be found;

    TEACHING the WORD. Just like the first church "continued in the Apostles Doctrine (Acts 2:42)."

    FELLOWSHIP. We will share in the giving as we "lay by in store (1 Cor 16:1-2)"

    BREAKING OF BREAD. Just as we partake of the Lords Supper "upon the first day of the week" (Acts 20:7); there will be NOTHING different TODAY!

    PRAYING. Prayer was a part of the worship of the Lords Church (Acts 2:42); (Acts 12:5).

    SINGING. (Heb 2:12); (Eph 5:19)
